7 Easy Tips for Outdoor Fountain Maintenance and Care

Having a beautiful outdoor fountain can make for a wonderful addition to your garden. Aside from adding beauty, the sound of water trickling from it can bring your outdoor space a sense of tranquil calm that can be quite rare in today’s world.

With proper maintenance and care, your outdoor fountain can operate smoothly for many years. The following tips will ensure that your outdoor fountain endures the test of time:

1.    Check the water level on a regular basis to make sure that the water pump is covered with water. Using distilled water can help minimize the buildup of minerals in the water and in the fountain.

2.    Make sure that dry leaves and other debris are removed two or three times a week. You should also check the water pump to make sure that there is no debris to clog it up and prevent proper circulation of water.

3.    It is important to unplug the water pump so that the water can be drained out at least on a monthly basis. You could also do this if the water looks dirty to you.

4.    To make sure that tough mineral stains are thoroughly cleaned from the pump, you should soak it in a solution of distilled white vinegar that has been diluted. Using a soft cloth, wipe the exterior gently yet thoroughly.

5.    The cover of the pump can be cleaned by removing it and using your hands to take out large debris that may have been caught inside. The areas that are hard to reach can be cleaned using an old toothbrush.

6.    You can use a mild detergent, a scrub brush and hot water to clean the fountain’s insides. Baking soda or vinegar can be used to remove tougher stains.

7.    Always rinse the fountain’s insides thoroughly with a rag. It is important to make sure that its walls are free of any detergent.
