8 Creative Ways to Use Rocks in Landscaping

Rocks have been used in landscaping since man started beautifying his surroundings. With a little thought and design you can make your yard unique with these landscaping ideas.

1. Steps
Stepping stones leading a path through your yard to your porch with steps made from rock built up in different layers. You are only limited by your imagination here.

2. A fire pit
A rock fire pit is easy to make and will bring back many memories of the smores cooked out back with family and friends, Not to mention being able to enjoy the great outdoors.

3. A dribbling waterfall
A rock waterfall using a pump to recycle the water back up to the top sounds much more complicated to make than it actually is. This is appealing to not only your eyes but to your ears as well.

4. The sundial
Building a sundial made of rock will let you know the time as you work in your yard. An appealing design and helpful, it will provide the best of both worlds.

5. Rock pool
A small decorative pool lined with rocks around the edges can be built with little money. A small piece of rubber EPDM roofing can be used as the liner with rocks holding the edges. Flowers can be planted outside with water plants growing inside. VOILA!

6. A yard bridge
A bridge made of rock must be made with the right type. Flat rocks that are more like a slate and can be stacked easily are ideal.

7. The bench
A long flat stone stacked on smaller flat ones make an excellent yard bench. Even a small picnic table can give your yard an appealing look.

8. Driveway
A driveway can be assembled using the right size flat rocks. Lining the driveway with rock and planting a few flowers will add just the right touch.
