Tips to Beautify Landscaping with Container Gardening

Looking for that perfect new focal point to perk up your landscape? Try one of these helpful tips for reusing what you probably already have—a healthy supply of garden pots.

1) Freshen the air around your front door. Flowers aren’t just pretty; they’re also nature’s deodorizers. Place a few of your more fragrant ones right around the front door and let your guests smell the roses as they’re waiting for you to open up your home.

2) Use pots to define your garden. If deer aren’t an issue in your neighborhood, consider ditching that old fence and lining your garden with vivid flowerpots! It will add a fresh touch to your home, plus spring is right around the way!

3) Try a hanging garden. A sparse tree doesn’t have to stay that way. If it has thick enough branches, consider adding a few hanging planters from it. Be sure their low enough for people to appreciate what is inside. Flowing flowers will work best for this option.

4) Try all shapes and sizes. You don’t have to stick with the typical brown-and-squat pot design. Your local garden store should have cherubs, frogs, and other lively architecture that you could stick a few favorite flowers in.

5) Recycle, reduce and REUSE. Got a runner in your household? An old running shoe can make for a charming even playful place for a plant to live. We’ve even seen one person who made a planter out of old floppy disks! Look around the house; that old art project of yours could just find some new life.

6) Use pots to control traffic. Those darn kids trampling all over your yard? Line the pots up leading to your front door to help show them where they’re actually supposed to walk.

7) Decorate your pots. Feeling artsy? Try painting a design on a pot or writing a message. Just make sure you use water-proof paints otherwise your masterpiece could end up all washed up!
